AEA Energy & Environment - previously - Future Energy Solutions: formerly - ETSU (Energy Technology Support Unit)

AEA Energy & Environment brings together the former Future Energy Solutions (FES) and National Environmental Technology Centre (Netcen) to provide a wide range of complementary skills and expertise to help tackle energy and environmental issues. Part of the AEA group, AEA Energy & Environment provides authoritative, independent consultancy and technical services to public and private sector clients, in the UK and internationally.

As part of the AEA Technology Environment business, Future Energy Solutions evolved from the Energy Technology Support Unit (ETSU) set up by the UK Government in 1974 in response to rising fuel prices, increasing energy costs and insecure oil supplies. After some thirty years work in areas of energy policy and technology development, the group has evolved into a private-sector business that offers expertise in:

• Energy and carbon management
• Technology assessment
• Feasibility studies and due diligence
• Change and stakeholder management
• Energy regulation and legislation
• Energy and poverty reduction
• Policy and strategy consultancy
• Programme and project management, including evaluation
• On-site energy surveys, audits and training
• Renewable energy
• Energy solutions for the built environment

ETSU was the UK Government exectutive agency for energy technologies. It offered a comprehensive range of services including:

• policy formation
• assessment of energy options
• development and management of programmes
• the targeted dissemination of information
