Organisation Description - International
International Energy Agency (IEA) Bioenergy |
These programmes support international development projects in sustainable forestry, combustion and co-firing, short rotation energy crops, gasification and pyrolysis, and other areas relating to bioenergy. Each Task is led by one of the participating countries (Operating Agent) with technical effort co-ordinated by a Task Leader. In general most tasks have a duration of 3 years. In 2006 the following tasks were operational:
Position papers and joint publications are prepared regularly. For example, the previous Task 38: Greenhouse Gas Balances of Biomass & Bioenergy Systems has produced a Frequently Asked Questions paper (PDF) on bioenergy, carbon sinks, and global climate change. The aim of the FAQ is to inform industry, scientists, policy makers and the interested public about some of the issues surrounding these topics. A bibliography on greenhouse gas balance of bioenergy, forestry, wood products, land use, and land-use change has been produced. Task 38 has also been contributing to the work of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and to clarification of biomass-relevant provisions of the Kyoto Protocol.
