Biomaterials - eBooks |
Most of the work reported on this website relates to the wide range of materials produced from agricultural and forest raw feedstocks that aim to replace everyday items ranging from solid and liquid biofuels, through chemicals, fibres and plastics to high value specialty chemicals. However, of equal value is the specific application of materials of biological origin within the field of medicine.
This includes the use of materials for joint replacement, tissue regeneration, drug delivery, wound repair, enhanced healing and related uses. The medical development of biomaterials covers the preparation of materials with distinct properties, that include ceramics and polymers. Depending on the application, it may be neceassary to use various materials, or a combination of biomaterials with different properties, in an attempt to find the best combination in terms of biocompatibility, biodegradability, immune response, mechanical properties and others.
These aspects are dealt with in detail by the Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Group, that has initiated a series of e-books that are open to access without charge in order to make information on this subject more accessible to all. These, written by experts in the field for all those interested, may be downloaded in electronic form from the Group website.
