IEA Task 39 : Liquid Biofuels from Biomass |
IEA Bioenergy Task 39 "Liquid Biofuels from Biomass" is currently composed of 12 countries or regional associations, including Austria, Canada, Denmark, the European Union, Finland, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, South Africa, Sweden, the United States and the United Kingdom.
This Task brings together leading researchers and industry pioneers in a bid to successfully introduce biofuels for transportion into the commercial marketplace. Activities include the technical challenges of biofuel production, as well as the policy and regulatory issues that must be addressed in commercialization. The overall goal of this Task is to provide participants with comprehensive information that will assist them with the development and deployment of biofuels for transportation fuel use. The Task will build upon the successes of previous efforts to deal with the complex technical and infrastructure issues related to biofuels in a coordinated manner. To meet its goals, the Task objectives are to:IEA Task 39 includes a number of biofuels in its mandate. Two biofuels, bioethanol and biodiesel, are commercial and thus receive the greatest attention from Task 39 in the current triennium. Other future biofuels that are considered by this Task include biohydrogen, Fischer-Trophs, pyrolysis oils, and biomass-to-liquid (BTL).
