The Combustion, Gasification and Propulsion Laboratory (CGPL), at the Indian Institute of Science, is involved in innovative research and development activity in the field of Bio-resources.

It carries out basic research as well as developing applications such as the gasification of a wide range of different forms of biomass including agro-residues. These techniques have been perfected to produce small independent power plants, which could serve the thermal or electricity needs of industry or rural society.

In addition to developing efficient ways of harnessing energy through gasification, technique s for obtaining value added products such as activated carbon and precipitated silica have also been developed.

CGPL addresses address the energy requirements of biomass-based industries and ais to offer turnkey solutions

The laboratory also houses the Indian branch of the Biomass Users Network (BUN) and produces a BUN newsletter every three months.
