Internationales Symposium, Werkstoffe aus Nachwachsenden Rohstoffen September 2003

The latest of an ongoing series of German exhibitions Naro.tech 2003 combined with a conference and partnering event was opened to a broader audience for the first time through collaboration with the IENICA project. The exhibition served as a communication platform for the renewable resources market attracting scientists, users, manufacturers, producers and consumers. At the same time the 4th International Symposium on Materials made from Renewable Resources covered recent scientific discoveries in applications of fibres, starch and other carbohydrates, fats and oils and included for the first time a separate section covering cellulose and cellulose derivatives. Another section dealt with Building with renewable raw materials.

The programme covered:

Fiber composites
Material applications for starch, proteins and lipids
Ecological building with renewable resources
Cellulose and cellulose derivatives
Adhesives from renewable resources (Workshop)

The lectures, that were for the first time translated simultancously into English, attracted several hundred participants from almost 20 countries.

The EUROPEAN BROKERAGE EVENT Renewable Resources that complimented the scientific activity was organised by the Thuringian Agency for Technology and Innovation GmbH, IRC and by the partners of the European IRC network. The thematic key topics covered:

Technology, Machinery and Accessories, (Harvesting and treatment, processing, machinery, equipment and tools etc.)
Ecological Building Materials, Insulating Materials
Packaging Materials, Bioplastics (Foils, fillers, disposable crockery, stationery, packaging etc.)
Natural Fibre Composites (Fibre-reinforced materials, structural parts etc.)
Natural Fibres in Textile Products (Fabric, yarn, wovens, felt, coated textiles, geo-textiles, natural fibre clothing)
Chemical Products (Resin, paint and varnish, lubricants, glues etc.)
Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Products
Renewable Energy

This event offered a unique opportunity to create new trans-national partnerships and co-operation projects.
