International Activities - Europe
EUREC - European Union Renewable Energy Centers Agency |
EUREC fosters contacts and cooperation between its members and European industry as well as selected EU political groupings active in the field of renewable energy utilization.
EUREC provides targeted information to the European Commission, the Directorate-Generals and the Parliament and groupings of parliamentarians with a special responsibility for energy affairs.
EUREC assists members
EUREC prepares consensus position papers with road maps and strategies for RD&D on different renewable energy technologies, as a consensus among its members, taking into account the views of industry and utilities. The position papers are updated at regular intervals.
EUREC manages and coordinates projects which are of general interest for renewable energy technologies, such as the creation, regular updating and distribution of information data bases and preparatory research for international guidelines and standards in liaison with ISO/IEC and CEN/CENELEC. Such projects are handled by the EUREC Bureau which is made up of representatives of the different technologies.
EUREC assumes a responsibility for disseminating know-how of renewable energy technologies to both the general public and specific target groups. In particular, it aims at stimulating measures to professionalise education and training at the university and medium technical level, such as high level courses at European Conferences or the creation of a European Master's Degree in Renewable Energy Technologies.
EUREC provides a platform for common initiatives with international organizations and will pay special attention to the transfer of knowledge and technologies to the Developing World.
Publications
These include a 268 page hard cover book 'The Future for Renewable Energy - 2", published in March 2002. (ISBN 1 902916 31 X), published by James and James (UK). In this second edition leading researchers and specialists in renewable energy have once again been commissioned by EUREC to completely reassess the position of renewable energy technologies in the context of global energy supply, and to recommend a development path for each technology branch. As a result the book presents the results of extensive research, incorporating the findings of specialists from over 40 renewable energy research institutes, representing over 1000 scientists. Individual chapters cover biomass, photovoltaics, small hydro, solar buildings, solar thermal power stations, wind energy, and other areas such as ocean energy and solar chemistry.
