| Area: | BIO-ECONOMY |
| Area: | MATERIALS |
| Area: | ENERGY |
| Area: | ENVIRONMENT |
The first calls for proposals under FP7 opened on 22 December.
The structure of the call is complex with a large number of calls that relate to renewable bioproducts and biofules. Some of these calls are listed here in order to assist in identifying funding related to biomass, non-food and renewable bioproducts within various part of the programme. It is indicative only and any one interested must study the further details that can be found on the CORDIS website before taking any further action. Aspects covered on the CORDIS site include
The IDEAs programme aims to enhance dynamism, creativity and excellence in European research at the frontier of knowledge by supporting 'investigator-driven' research projects across all fields by individual teams competing at a European level. Projects will be funded based on proposals presented by researchers on subjects of their choice, evaluated on scientific excellence by peer review. The IDEAS Programme encourages basic research and could include non-food related activities.

This covers actions of a horizontal nature or those not directly linked to cooperation themes. It includes ERA-NET and Conferences/Support Actions.
Call for proposals for ERANET
Call
details (35 Kb PDF)
The primary aim in funding food, agriculture and biotechnology research under FP7 is to build a European Knowledge Based Bio-Economy (food, feed, forest, fisheries, agriculture, aquaculture, chemistry, etc.) by bringing together all industries and economic sectors that produce, manage and exploit biological resources and related services as well as supply or consumer industries. More than € 1.9 billion has been allotted to funding this theme over the duration of FP7. However, much of this relates to food rather than non-food. Non-food activities are covered in the following sections.

Call for proposals for large scale integrating collaborative projects
Call
details (71 Kb PDF)
This call is divided into two parts. Part one covers small or medium scale focused projects, as well as some Collaborative projects, Coordination and Support Action while part 2 mainly covers collaborative projects. Biomass related activities are covered in both parts.
Part one includes advanced gas cleaning technologies for biomass and innovative technologies for efficient electricity production in biomass-fired IGCC as well a topics related to biofuels ( Pre-treatment of lignocellulosic biomass for ethanol production, New and advanced technologies for hydrolysis and/or fermentation of lignocellulosic biomass, High purity syngas cleaning technologies for biofuels, Biological conversion of syngas into liquid biofuels) and the Biorefinery (Forest-based biorefinery , New uses for glycerine in biorefineries, Developing biorefinery concepts) as well as alternative routes to renewable fuel production .
Part 2 includes Renewable Electricity Generation (Novel solid biofuels for electricity generation, High-efficiency medium-to-large scale electricity generation from biomass) as well as a range of activities related to both first and second generation renewable fuel production (Bioethanol from sugar and starch crops, Biodiesel from oil crops, animal tallow and used cooking oils, Synthetic biofuels via gasification) Hydrogenation of oils and fats and Demonstration of Liquid and Gaseous Biofuels use in transport/ vehicles.
