HyLights is a coordination action to accelerate the commercialisation of hydrogen and fuel cells in the field of transport in Europe. Hydrogen enables the transport sector to phase in renewable energies on the path to a cleaner mobility. At the same time hydrogen contributes to fulfill various strategic policy goals of the European Commission such as
The HyLights consortium consists of 17 partners from automotive, energy and gases industry as well as of 4 institute partners and 3 associated partners.
Although HyLights's assessment focuses on transport stationary and portable H2 applications will be considered if synergies become apparent.
HyLights will comprise 3 phases of 12 months each. Phase I includes a methodology definition and assessement, Phase II gaps analysis and development of recommendations and Phase III continuous monitoring.
HyLights will need to draw from a network of relevant experts. For this purpose an European Partnership for Hydrogen in Transport (EPHT ) will be established to extend the reach of the European Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Platform (HFP). An asset of EPHT will be to include the member states/regions view through a moderation process. Dissemination of the project results will supplement the activity, coherently presenting the European demonstration projects.
HyLights comprises 6 WPs to administer the project, analyse concluded/ongoing demonstration projects, develop methodology and tools, analyse gaps and derive recommendations for HyCOM and prepare legal and financing issues in depth and disseminate the results to European H2 stakeholders and the public.
HyLights's organisation is reflected in the partner structure: WP-level (institutes: facilitation and assessment) and Steering Group level (mainly industry: strategy). The role of the highly competent industry partners is to prove industry's strong commitment in H2as a fuel, provide expertise and ensure the access to sensitive data from the demonstration projects
