The concept of Technology Platforms (TP) has been established by the European Commission as a new mechanism for fostering activities where research, technology and development are fundamental to addressing major economic, technological or societal challenges.
While the main activities of the TP Biofuel will be supported by the participants themselves, there is a need for coordination, document handling, organisation of workshops and dissemination of information from and to members of the TP and others. The activities to fulfil the needs are supported by the EC through a 'Secretariat'.
Two national (Swedish and German) organisations involved with energy and renewable biomaterials and a commercial SME (UK) with relevant experience in publications, websites and consultancy in the area of biomass and biofuels are responsible for this Secretariat and the accompanying website.
The main objective is to assist the TP develop the strategic agenda that addresses all relevant issues to ensure biofuels reach and sustain a growing market in line with EU policy as well as identifying those aspects of research, development and demonstration that can facilitate this and will be of value in developing priorities for the 7th RTD Framework Programme.
