FP6 Programme Life Science and Food Quality

This section contains projects selected for funding from Theme 1 (Life Science), which has a strong focus on genomics and other aspects of biotechnology and Theme 5 (Food), which again covers biological and agricultural aspects which can impinge on non-food activities.

Integrating post-genomic research into the more established biotechnological approaches extends to gene expression and proteomics, comparative genomics and infomatics as well as other multidisciplinary approaches to basic biological processes, that will also be of relevance to plant science.

In the same way a number of the projects covering improvedcontrol of food production and related environmental factors, aimed at developing new and safer food production chains, including methods of analysis,detection and control, linked to safer and environmentally friendly production methods and technologies, also raise issues relevant to the use of crops for non-food purposes.
