Abstract

This project aims at the development , validation and intercalibration of a quick test battery for the safety assessment of food contact paper and board. The work is carried out at a pre-normative level. By disseminating the results to industry, legislators, standardisation bodies and consumers, a new accepted risk evaluation procedure will be crated. This activity is required since product safety is increasingly important for food packaging, while customers ask for proof of safety. At present there are no reliable test methods. There is also a regulatory gap as far as paper and board are concerend. There is a EU Framework Directive on materials in contact with foodstuffs, but no directive yet on paper and board. Scientific data is needed as a basis for legislation, whiel European wide research is necessary to define such methods.

The main aim of the project is to create scientifically sound recommendations for a harmonised risk evaluation and product testing methodology. Development validation and intercalibration for safety assessment of food contact paper and board of:
