Abstract

The overall objective of this project is to develop a cost-effective, combined dry gas cleaning and particle removal system based on ceramic catalytic active filter candles to minimise the main pollutants from biomass and bio-waste combustion, namely SO2, HCl, NOx and fly ash. This research is related to an industrial process application.

A laboratory tests phase relating to a study of the filtration conditions and the development a catalytic active ceramic filter for simultaneous SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) and dust removal are being carried out. The viability of the system for combined dry removal of particle and gaseous pollutants will be demonstrated by filtering a lipstream of the total flow rate of the flue gases from an existing 3.5 MWth (~5000 Nm3/h) Bubbling Fluidised Bed (BFB) combustion plant, utilising leather wastes and coal/olive oil residue mixtures.
