Abstract
The horticultural industry uses a large amount of substrate to grow plants
in greenhouses. However, much of this is neither durable or sustainable.
This project aimed to produce more durable substrates from agricultural waste
(wood) chips and composted material and to test the performance of this material
both by using it to grow plants and by characterising it through measurement
of characteristics such as pH and conductivity.
