Abstract

The main objective is to construct and operate a 50 t/d wood flash pyrolysis plant.

The technical objective is to establish:

  • Flash pyrolysis process characteristics, such as the plant availability, validation of environmental impact, exact manpower requirements and skills, accurate capital costs (+/- 15%) and technical specifications.
  • The warranty conditions for the pyrolysis oils, with respect to oil quality, its consistency and the production costs
  • Production of 1,000 tons of pyrolysis oil to combust in a district-heating boiler.
  • to provide a sound technical and economical basis for future oil production facilities,
  • to combust the oil in existing combustion chambers and establish standards and warranty conditions during long tests.

Participants

The partnership consists of five partners from four countries, including a technology supplier, an engineering company, a construction / exploitation company, and two future end-users. It is envisaged that fast pyrolysis systems will be competitive with alternative bio-energy technologies because of the relatively low investment costs, and also because the plant will be located on the premises of a biomass treatment company. The infrastructure is present, and operators are available.
