Abstract

The objective of this proposal is to explore the possibility of eliminating the increasing cost of incineration or landfill disposal of paper industry sludges by energy efficient and environmentally friendly superheated steam drying followed by mechanical separation of their fibrous and mineral components for use as raw materials or, alternatively, to use the un-separated dried mixture as a renewable fuel and then to use the ash comprising calcined minerals as a raw material.
