Abstract:

The project will create a Thematic Network linking the leading European organisations supporting the forest and wood industries (FBIND) sector . The Network will collate, assess and organise all national and EU funded RTD pertaining to the sector and create a multi-lingual electronic mechanism whereby the results of this RTD are accessible to, and understood and used by the relevant SMEs that predominate in the sector. The Partners parent networks and extensive links with the Forest-Wood industry at European, national and branch levels will be mobilised to effect the development of a far-reaching dissemination and technology transfer process. The coalescing of the Partners networks will create an established vehicle for the creation of an electronic RTD community, dynamically linked to the forest-wood sector's industries.

The objctive of Xyloreach is the creation of a far-reaching Thematic network linking the leading European networks that support the Forst and Forest-based Industry sector in the areas of RTD, education and Training and Technology Transfer. Eleven sub-thematic working groups will collate, process and summarise the results of all national and EU- funded RTD relevant to their areas, incorporate these in a simple and understandable form into an electronic format and web data-base, and present the results to industry at a series of sub-thematic workshops and Seminars. The end result will be the existence of a mega-network o f RTD performers, a 'virtual, European RTD community for the sector, and the establishment of an interactive mechanism giving substance to the principle of technology transfer between RTD/industry, the sub-sectors of the Forest- Wood industry chain, and the regions of Europe.
