Demonstration of a 30 MWe atmospheric gasification combined cycle power plant fuelled with several biomass waste streams in Noord Holland
Objectives
The project aims to demonstrate the technical and financial viability of a 30 MWe atmospheric pressure circulating fluid bed biomass gasifier/combined cycle plant.
Technical Approach
The fuel gas, after cleaning, is fed to a modified aeroderivative gas turbine originally developed for natural gas. During 7446 hours per year electricity will be produced with an efficiency of 41%, based on the lower heating value of the fuel, resulting in a yearly production of 225.5 GWh (47026 toe primary energy). The plant will be commissioned and operated in the first months with wood chips and subsequently fuelled with a range of biomass/waste fuels in order to arrive at an optimum mix of fuels in terms of price, availability and monitoring results. The emissions will be less than the strict Dutch standards for waste incineration (which are more stringent than the power production standards).
