Generation of electricity by the LR-gasification of dried, undigested sewage sludge
Objectives
The aim is to construct a CHP 5 MWe plant using 35,000 t/y sewage sludge as a fuel. The process is based on atmospheric pyrolytic gasification, at > 850 ºC followed by gas cleaning (including active carbon filter for Hg removal) and fuel gas combustion in a 4.5 MWe gas turbine. The heat for sludge drying comes from flue gases of the turbine replacing natural gas in drying. The process is innovative in drying, gasification, gas cleaning, gas compression and gas turbine operation. Sludge solid content is 5 % before drying and 93 % after the process. The net efficiency is 20 %, nominal investment is 2680 ECU/kWe.
