Organic Rankine Cycle based CHP production from multi biomass fuels

Objectives

The aim is to construct a 0.4 MW_e and 2.05 MW_th CHP plant in a sawmill in Sardinia to be fuelled by a mixture of energy crops, wood processing by-products and agro/forestry residues. Sawdust and bark will be main fuels (11,900 t/y). the plant will use a multifuel combustor and Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) turbogenerator. Total process efficiency 805. Heat used for wood dryers. Innovation is multi-fuelling strategy with combination of thermal oil biomass boiler and ORC turbogenerator. Nominal investment in 6490 ECU/kW_e.
