Northampton biomass power station [phase 1]
Objectives
Bubbling fluidised bed combustion of 120.000 ton/yr of poultry litter based on the Kvaerner Pulping process producing 9,6 MWe during 8000 hours per year (electrical efficiency 23 %). Limestone is injected in the furnace to remove acid gases and activated carbon for dioxins and heavy metals. The ash is recycled as fertiliser after granulation. The innovation is the fluidised bed process application for the poultry litter feedstock and efficient operation without bed sintering and agglomeration. Project has received NFFO support.
State of Advancement
Following and adverse decision by the Planning Inspectors, the site at Nunn Mills was sold for £250,000 in early March and Agrigen was placed in Receivership on 12 March, 1999. There were a number of expressions of interest in the NFFO licence and Thermie Grant.
