Objective:

The long term objective is to raise the awareness of wood energy in such a way that wood energy is considered as a realistic and favourable alternative for heating. The project objective is to explore information dissemination structures by implementing various practices. Based on experiences gained during the project, the plan for promoting and applying the best practice(s) after the project is established.

In the area of small scale wood energy production there is a large number of decision makers. These include the wood fuel suppliers as well as system and equipment manufacturers that are mostly rather small enterprises while end-users are dispersed. Therefore to attain a position as a favourable heat source, a lot of development has to be done in respect of providing an information delivery system and promoting best practice.

The objective of this project is to carry out and explore different practices that might be used to promote the small scale wood energy in the target areas. In addition the project has the following aims:

develop adjustable energy audits and economical calculation procedure;
preparation of heating system investment plans and exchange of procedure;
regional promotion of wood energy awareness and know how;
information exchange between the partner regions of Central Finland, Mid-Sweden, Dyfi Valley (Wales, UK) and Upper Austria;
investigate the promotional practice;
support the Campaign for Take-Off, reduce the CO₂and SO₂ emission;
increase employment.

Activities

The project has five phases:

initiation,
energy audits,
preparation of small scale wood energy heating systems,
production of booklet for pellet system planners,
know-how transfer including training and other tools to increase and exchange the knowledge and result dissemination.

Dissemination during the project will be through the Internet as well as through workshops, study tours and seminars. The participants have already established wide networks of contacts and they will go on with the dissemination of results after the project has finished.

Results

This project will have following results:

Creation of more small scale wood energy installations;
The model types of small scale wood energy heating system will be produced and delivered;
The wood energy material will be produced (booklet for pellet plant planners, leaflet for energy advisor, transparency set of good firing habits (30 pieces);
Experimental wood stove training will be established for energy advisors;
Practical training for wood fuel plant operators will be implemented in co-operation with equipment suppliers;
Training for forestry advisor will be carried out about covering aspects of energy wood procurement and the usage benefits;
Transnational workshop will be organised covering the practices and operational models of promoting small scale wood energy supply and usage;
CO₂and SO₂ emissions will be reduced
regional employment will be increased as jobs are created.
