SME TechWeb: A website for technology-oriented SMEs |
Research and innovation are among the biggest challenges facing Europe. The active participation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is essential - it is on them that future European economic and employment growth will be based. That is why the European Union's latest five-year action plan for research and technological development ( Fifth Framework Programme, 1998-2002) includes 'specific measures' to assist SMEs to participate in Community research. In the next Framework Programme (2002-2006) these measures for SMEs will be strengthened still further. In addition, 15% of the new Framework Programme's budget will be earmarked for SMEs.
SME TechWeb completes the existing range of information for SMEs that would like to take part. It is designed for technology-oriented companies with fewer than 250 employees, and especially those wishing to innovate and internationalise. Using clear, simple language, offering numberous concrete examples of projects, this website will be of particular value to those applying for research funding through the SME Specific Measures, or interested in doing so. The web address is given at the top of this article or contact the helpline by clicking on the link below.
