The CORDIS Service

What is CORDIS

CORDIS, the Community Research and Development Information Service, is a European Commission information service providing efficient access to complete information on EU research and exploitation possibilities.

The European Commission's Fourth Framework Programme (1994-1998) funding research and technological developments holds more than 12 billion ECU, which is more than double the budget of the preceding framework. The Framework Programme is essentially aimed at helping European companies compete more effectively in today's global market.

CORDIS represents a central source of information crucial for any organisation - be it industry, SMEs, research organisations, universities - wishing to participate in the exploitation of research results, participate in EU funded research programmes and/or seek partnerships.

CORDIS provides information on all research and technological development activities in the EU through a complete collection of databases. The objective is to disseminate information on R&D to the widest audience possible with complete, up-to-date, and easily accessible data helping research projects across borders.

The service features, among many other functions, a listing of thousands of European companies that want partners to develop or exploit technologies and know-how.

If looking for a partner, if needing to know opening/closing dates and the content of the Commission's Calls for Proposals, looking up projects, finding EU decisions on research - simply get in touch with CORDIS.

How to access the CORDIS service

The standard CORDIS service is available on-line through Watch-CORDIS, an easy to use, Windows-based interface.

Watch-CORDIS - Windows Access to Central Host - is a Windows application which allows you to interrogate all the databases at a click of a mouse. Watch-CORDIS supports a variety of hardware configurations and data communication settings. Watch-CORDIS allows you to execute Windows. Watch-CORDIS is supplied free of charge via the CORDIS WWW service of from the CORDIS Help Desk.

You can access the on-line databases using a direct telephone line, your local packet switched data network (PSDN) and the Internet

- Telephone: +352-420347 (even parity, 7 data, 1stop)

- PSDN: NUA 270448112 (7 databits)

- Telnet: echo.lu

- WWW: http://www.cordis.lu

World Wide Web

After the successful launch of the News databases on the World Wide Web (WW) in May 1996, the other CORDIS databases have followed in October 1997. Through a simple interface you have an easy access, with no need for a personal password, to all the nine CORDIS databases through the WWW.

In addition, the CORDIS WWW service provides information on CORDIS and the CORDIS databases, various software products, which can be downloaded (including the before-mentioned Watch-CORDIS) and the possibility of downloading full text documents including work programmes and information packages and Calls for Proposals for all the research programmes in the Fourth Framework.

The CORDIS WWW service can be accessed on the Internet using browser software (e.g. Netscape) and the URL is: http://www.cordis.lu/

CD-ROM

The CORDIS databases are also available on a CD-ROM, which is updated quarterly. It is available for MS-DOS personal computers equipped with a CD-ROM drive. Watch-CORDIS can be used as a single interface for the CD-ROM as well as a unified retrieval tool for CD-ROM and on-line. The CORDIS CD-ROM is available on subscription.
