The principal objective of this Concerted Action is the production of a comprehensive text book/manual entitled Heterbasidion annosum in European forests: Prospects of effective control. The book will be distributed to forest managers and management companies in Europe, as a guide on disease diagnosis and protocols for control.
Meetings will be arranged to establish the contents of the book, and for research workers to present their current work for inclusion in the text. These meetings will also provide a forum for standardising the directions of research and techniques to be used by different groups in Europe, towards the common, central goal of more efficient control of this disease.
Outline:
The Concerted Action will address the difficult problem of control of this most important disease of coniferous trees in Europe, bringing together principal research workers from different European countries for a series of meetings over a three year period. Each participant has current research in progress on various aspects of the biology and molecular biology of H. annosum; all have the common, longterm goal of disease control.
