Contract No AIR3-CT94-2065
Total Cost 842 161 ECU
EC Contribution 507 300 ECU
Start Date 01/12/1994
Duration 36 months

OBJECTIVE:

High yield pulps are nowadays a very interesting fibre resource for the paper industry. Poplar is used for its many advantages in chemithermomechanical (CTMP) processes : bright colour, opacity and easy to defibrate. These produced pulps are bleached with hydrogen peroxide at high level of brightness in order to introduce them in high quality paper grade.

Enzymatic treatment of CTMPs will be carried out before hydrogen peroxide bleaching to increase the brightness, reduce the chemical charge and enhance the colour stability to light. Study of Manganese peroxidase enzymes and their biomimetic system and application at pilot plant and industrial scales on CTMPs of poplar clones selected for their different behaviour to mechanical pulping.

The aims are :

CTP chemithermomechanical pulping pilot plant (capacity: 1 t/day)
