OBJECTIVE:

This concerted action relates primarily to :

The action is intended to promote a faster spread of state of the art high-technology Image Analysis (IA) equipment and methods into the European paper industry for efficient quality control and thereby support competitiveness. IA is by its visual nature well suited for assessing quality appearance factors like print and paper colour, gloss and uniformity. It can be applied in a multitude of ways and it is therefore important to promote discussions on suitable community quality standards before too many local standards emerge.

Environmental statement: image analysis has in itself no environmental effects but as a tool for production and quality control it can be helpful for environmentally friendly production. One example is how IA can be used for control of removal of ink in the processing of recycled waste paper.

The main topics are :

The coordinated laboratories in this action are prepared to share their knowledge to the European pulp and paper industry as a whole which makes the community support very meaningful.
